Bringing Live Theatre to Local Children – For Free

Horbury Community Centre Trust is proud to launch Theatre for Schools – a new annual initiative designed to ensure every child in our community has access to high-quality, inspiring live theatre.

In October 2025, we’re opening our doors to over 800 Key Stage 2 pupils from local primary schools for four free performances of The Story Forge: Make Your Own Myth, a fantastically fun and interactive show created by the Rubbish Shakespeare Company and Silly History Boys.

Why We're Doing This

We believe every child deserves to experience the magic of theatre, regardless of family income, school budgets or where they live. With education and arts funding under pressure, cultural trips have become a luxury many schools can no longer afford. We want to change that – and we are.

Thanks to support from partners and funders, all tickets are free, and we’re covering transport costs for schools that need it. This means no child misses out.

What Schools Can Expect

  • Free tickets for up to 840 children and 60 staff

  • Funded travel for schools unable to cover costs

  • A warm welcome at the fully accessible Cluntergate Centre

  • A high-energy performance designed to spark imagination and creativity

  • Future plans include in-school workshops and teacher packs to link theatre to the curriculum

Long-Term Vision

  • Theatre for Schools isn’t a one-off event – it’s the beginning of a new cultural tradition in Horbury. From 2026, we plan to build on the project with additional creative opportunities, including:

  • Theatre-led workshops in schools

  • Classroom resources to support storytelling, drama and literacy

  • Annual performances timed to fit the school calendar
